My before photos tell the story. I was 39 with the body of man who no longer gave a damn. My cholesterol levels were way too high, blood pressure way too high, and scale weight was at 111.8kg. I was a sad reflection of what I had once been.

It was a trip to the GP that was the turning point for me. After receiving the bad news from my doctor about my health I said to her ‘would you believe just 5 years ago I was a trim fit aerobics instructor’. She looked at my body and said ‘no’. At that humiliating moment I knew I had to change.

Being 44 years old and over weight for the majority of it, I have struggled to find an eating and exercise plan that would suit my needs. Having arthritis in the knees I can’t do the “bouncy bouncy aerobic” thing, so when I read of FATMANSLIM’S boxing exercise class I thought I’d give it a go.

As an ordained minister of the church and being a fulltime student, I lead a busy, stressful life style. My interest in attending Fat Man Slim was due to a desire to lose weight and improve my fitness. I have come to realise that it is very hard to maintain motivation on your own and having a group of like-minded individuals to train with and trainers who are great at providing that extra bit of support and motivation when the going gets tough makes all the difference.

I found the two six week courses that I completed to be great fun, the group of guys all supported each other and the trainers were awesome, driving us all very hard but at the same time ensuring no one felt pressured to do something that they were incapable of or uncomfortable with.
